Shaw Research Library
About the library
The National Gallery of Victoria’s Shaw Research Library is a dedicated art library at the NGV. In addition to a formal book collection the library holds an extensive archive of rare printed matter including books, artist and exhibition ephemera.
The library also houses the Campbell-Pretty Fashion Research Archive. Ranging from 1813 to 2008 the archive includes drawings, rare books, photography and rare magazines such as prominent French publications, such as Gazette du Bon Ton, Les Elegances Parisiennes, Chiffons and Art-Gout-Beaute: Feuillets de L’Elegance Feminine. Spanning the course of modern fashion history, the archive not only enriches the NGV’s own Fashion and Textile collection but also provides invaluable contextualisation to researchers looking at significant design movements of the past two centuries and is unique to the NGV.
