Debbie Millman: Courage vs Confidence

Presented by Creative Women’s Circle

Sorry you missed this one!
Sun 15 Mar, 5pm–7.30pm
NGV International
Clemenger BBDO Auditorium

Sometimes finding the confidence in yourself to take the next step in life is daunting. Debbie Millman, design expert and host of the podcast Design Matters, champions the idea of shaping one’s own definition of success through focussing on courage rather than confidence. “Courage is the foundation for authentic confidence,” she says. “Taking the first step creates courage which will grow with every repetitive step you take.” In this presentation, Debbie Millman speaks about how she has intentionally shaped her life to fit her personal definition of success.

Debbie Millman is a designer, author, educator, curator and host of the podcast Design Matters. In her role as host, Millman has interviewed nearly 500 artists, designers and cultural commentators over the show’s fourteen-year history. In 2011 Design Matters won the Cooper Hewitt National Design Award and in 2015 Apple named it one of the best overall podcasts on iTunes. Millman has authored six books, including How to Think Like a Great Graphic Designer, and is currently working on a new book titled Why Design Matters, to be published by HarperCollins in 2020. Her illustrations have been published in The New York Times, New York Magazine, Design Observer and Fast Company. Millman is the President Emeritus of AIGA and is one of only five women to hold the position in the organisation’s 100-year history.
