With the decline of public-interest journalism, the merging of social media and corporate surveillance, and the privatisation of public space (that almost resulted in an Apple Store in Federation Square), the role of active citizenship has never been more critical.

This full-day workshop, led by Esther Anatolitis, draws on MPavilion as a cultural laboratory to explore the questions: How do we make public space? What happens when we don’t make our public spaces, and instead they’re made for us? Where are our most impactful conversations taking place? How can we design such spaces into our cities? And what’s at stake for democracy?

Get stuck into these questions about urbanism posed for and by artists, architects, communicators, planners, journalists, policy-makers and citizens.
